The Fobang Foundation, a
nonprofit, apolitical and non-governmental organization was created
and dedicated to the memory of Walter Fobang Mbacham ’29-’69, a
Cameroon teacher and Boy Scout, whose ideal was to create conditions
for a better world through Devotion, Openness, Truth and Justice that
offered
“the respect of the interdependence of diverse individuals within a
population as the operational base of society”. The Foundation’s
guiding principle is that defined by the Schweitzer ethic of
“Reverence for Life in Action”. The Fobang Foundation
since 1998, has a limited number of staff positions (4). According to
need there might be other staff brought in to perform and receive
allowances for carried out activities. It has a non-salaried
executive committee which is selected from the board of officers, to
which it is responsible. All functions and activities of the
foundation are carried out by volunteers. The board of officers has to
approve all the plans and activities undertaken by the foundation. The
various
officers each have a responsibility for certain programmes or part of
programmes. Programmes are executed as written in a “Plan of
